The Future of User-Customizations at PBwiki

March 24th, 2008
With PBwiki 1.0, it was possible to hide (or modify) selected elements of a wiki page easily. This depended upon two features, both of which were freely available to all wikis, regardless of premium status.

PBwiki 2.0 has taken several steps to eliminate this useful ability, especially from non-premium (free) wikis. They no longer allow CSS  or JavaScript in the HTML Plugin, which worked fine in PBwiki 1.0, and is used by hundreds of users.  They have also removed support for the Classic editor (which did not modify your code when saving), and made the “Point&Click” editor mandatory. This editor does massive of amounts of editing to your content after you save your page, including stripping out style tags and javascript code, when placed directly in the source.

At this point in time, questions regarding the availability of these formerly free, functional and useful features have been posted over at Get Satisfaction, but they have not been answered. If you would like to know more about PBwiki’s support for these features, please contact support at pbwiki.com with your questions, and feel free to join the discussion in our forums.

Welcome to Peanut Butter Widget!

March 21st, 2008
Welcome to the new Peanut Butter Widget Blog, hosted by UnrealBlogs. We are gathered here today to join the Widget Library and PBwiki “2.0″ (if at all possible). Many of the widgets in the Library have no use in PBwiki 2.0 (like adding buttons), but others should be able to work. Behind the scenes, we’ll still be using PBwiki 1.0 to develop and publish the Widget Library, because PBwiki 2.0 doesn’t allow us to do that kind of programming. But that won’t affect you, the user!

The first, and probably most important step, is to find out more about the community. Which widgets are you using? Which ones do you really want moved into 2.0? Which ones don’t work? We’ve set up a Support Community to discuss these issues. So spread the news to anyone you know who uses the Widget Library, and we hope you’ll join our community and help us make the Widget Library even better!

By the way, while we couldn’t import your usernames from the old PBwiki forums, we have integrated the logins for this blog and our forums, so you’ll only have to create a single username to comment here and in the forums.

Which Widgets Do You Use?

March 21st, 2008
The original Widget Library started out as a way to alter some of the more unattractive elements of the PBwiki user interface (hiding the footer, for example). PBwiki 2.0 has done away with many of those elements, thereby making those functions much less useful when used in a 2.0 wiki.

The first big step in updating and expanding the Widget Library is to determine which widgets people use most often (or consider to be important, for whatever reason). If you currently use the Widget Library in your 1.0 wiki, and would like to see it become available in 2.0, then please head on over to our forums, and participate in this thread.

Thanks!
